Charity golf tournament will benefit
Mid-Florida Medical Services Foundation
WINTER HAVEN, FL- (April 1, 2004) – The Mid-Florida Medical Services
Foundation announced today that the Colorado Boxed Beef Company/R.D.
Saterbo Memorial golf tournament is now formally linked with the
Foundation. The invitational tournament will be held on Friday, May
7. The proceeds of the tournament will assist the Mid-Florida Medical
Services Foundation in its efforts to improve healthcare in East Polk and
Highlands counties.
“We consider ourselves very fortunate that
Colorado Boxed Beef and the Saterbo family have stepped forward with this
expression of support for the Foundation,” said Richard Straughn,
Board Chairman of the MFMS Foundation. “This is a wonderful
opportunity not only for the Foundation, but for everyone who participates.
It will bring together business and community leaders from throughout
east Polk and Highlands counties, allowing us to celebrate the good work of
the Foundation and have fun on one of the most beautiful new golf courses
in the state, too.”
The tournament will be held at the ChampionsGate Golf
Club, home of two championship 18-hole golf coursed designed by
accomplished course architect and golfer Greg Norman. ChampionsGate
is also the world headquarters of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy.
Registration and lunch begins at 11:30a.m. ChampionsGate is
Located at 1400 Masters Blvd, ChampionsGate, Florida, off Interstate 4 at
Exit 58, about five miles north of the U.S. Highway 27 interchange on the
Polk-Osceola county line.
The MFMS Foundation provides philanthropic support for
Winter Haven Hospital, the Regency Medical Center and many other health
care services in east Polk and Highlands counties. Foundation funds
are used to attract and retain vital healthcare personnel, to purchase
needed equipment, provide ongoing support for patient and staff education
and to support renovation and new-construction needs throughout the
organization.

tribute to civic leader and Colorado Boxed Beef founder R.D. Saterbo, who
was also a highly respected Winter Haven Hospital Board
Chairman.”
Colorado Boxed Beef executive Steve Saterbo, who is a
newly elected member of the MFMS Foundation Board of Trustees, said:
“Creating and linking this event with the Foundation and WHH has been
a goal of our family for several years. My brothers and I are very
excited about creating an event that honors our father and contributes to
the long-term welfare of the communities Winter Haven Hospital
serves.”
Colorado Boxed Beef, based in Auburndale, is a
family-owned company that purchases, warehouses, and distributes beef,
pork, lamb, poultry, fish and selected dairy products. It recently
was ranked 15th by Florida Trend Magazine among the top 200 privately held
businesses in volume sales in Florida.
Joel Thomas, Executive Director of the Foundation
said, “The golf-tournament planning committee includes Steve, Bryan,
John and Rich Saterbo as well as Steve Trinklein and Dwight Richert of
Mediflex Staffing, Winter Haven Hospital Board Member Brian Swain, Don
Ingram, Foundation Development Committee Chair, local Attorney Jesse
Bennett, and Foundation Chairman Richard Straughn.”
“The proceeds from the event will go directly to
improve patient care services at Winter Haven Hospital and our women and
children’s hospital at the Regency Medical Center,” Thomas
said. “From the outset, Colorado Boxed Beef executives Bryan,
John and Steve Saterbo, working with Foundation Trustees, have planned this
event to become the signature high-profile golf fund-raising event in east
Polk County.”
