| Welcome
Welcome to Winter Haven Hospital‘s Clinical Laboratory. Under the direction of an Administrative Director and a Pathologist, our Laboratory is comprised of the Blood Bank, Chemistry, Cytology, Hematology, Histology, Microbiology, Phlebotomy, Serology, and Transfusion Services departments. Comprehensive laboratory testing for in-patients, outpatients, physicians’ offices, clinics, and long-term care facilities is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by our registered Medical Technologists, Technicians, Phlebotomists, and clerical personnel. Our Clinical Laboratory performs 95% of all requested tests in-house (over 500,000 tests per year) and maintains contractual agreements with other high-quality laboratories to complete testing not available on site.
Our Outpatient Collection Station, conveniently located on the first floor, is open Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 4:30 p.m. Most routine laboratory tests can be collected on a first come, first serve basis, however, some specialized tests require an appointment or patient preparation. Please telephone the Outpatient Collection Station in advance.

Answers to frequently asked questions about the Outpatient Collection Station:
What should I bring?
When you visit, please bring your physician‘s written order AND your insurance card or Medicare/Medicaid card to avoid a delay in testing or a need to reschedule.
Where do I go?
Before a specimen can be collected or a previously collected specimen can be left, you must first register with the Outpatient Admitting department located on the first floor of the hospital, then you will be directed to the Outpatient Collection Station.
What should I expect?
A laboratory test requires one or more samples of blood or body fluids. Our experienced Phlebotomy staff is specially trained to extract blood from all age groups from infants to geriatrics.
How long will I have to wait?
The waiting time required will vary. The best time to arrive is between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm. Monday is typically our busiest day.
How should I prepare for my test?
Your physician is the best source for this information and should advise you on any preparation necessary. Some tests require that you fast (no food or drink from 9:00 p.m until after your blood is drawn the following morning). Please check with your physician for specific instructions.
