Regency Medical Center Receives Quality Award
It is with great pride that we share with you the news that Winter Haven Hospital / Regency Medical Center has been awarded the 2006 Premier Award for Quality for Maternal and Neonatal Care. Winning this award means that we have been recognized as a national leader in healthcare, achieving excellence in both quality of care and operational efficiency.
From an eligible pool of nearly 400 Premier hospitals, only three winners were picked in each of six categories for each hospital type. Our category of Maternal and Neonatal Care compared us to hospitals offering obstetrical services without a level three NICU, regardless of teaching status.
To be considered for the Premier Award for Quality, an organization must be a top performer in one of the following clinical areas: Hip and/or Knee Replacement Procedures, Coronary Artery Bypass Graft, Heart Failure, Pneumonia, Acute Myocardial Infarction or Maternal and Neonatal Care. The Award is given based on quality and cost data, and is distinguished by its consideration of performance-based criteria, including clinical quality outcomes, clinical process indicators and resource utilization outcomes.
The performance-based criteria for the Maternal and Neonatal award includes:
- Primary C-section delivery rate
- Risk-adjusted inpatient neonatal mortality for low-risk infants (birth weight >2500 grams)
- Risk-adjusted complication rate (mothers and babies)
- Third & fourth degree laceration rate (vaginal and C-section deliveries)
- Wage- and severity-adjusted average cost for vaginal delivery, C-section delivery and neonates
- Severity-adjusted average length of stay for C-section and vaginal deliveries.
Every employee, physician, volunteer and board member can be proud of the achievement of this award and the part they play in providing nationally recognized, outstanding care to our community.
