Mental Health Services
The following is a description of services offered.
Psychiatric Services
Board certified/eligible Psychiatrists and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners provide evaluation and diagnostic services and assess for the need, and provide management of, psychotropic medications.
Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitalization
The Center for Psychiatry (CFP) of the Winter Haven Hospital, Inc. provides psychiatric hospitalization and treatment in a comfortable lake front setting for up to 30 adults, ages 18 and above. The Treatment Team is recovery focused to engage the person in order to achieve treatment goals. They also address co-occurring medical and substance use issues that may be affecting the person and ensures that follow up care is arranged prior to discharge.
Outpatient Services and Support Services
Individuals in need of counseling services receive an initial assessment and development of a treatment plan that is individually designed with you. Counseling services may include individual, family or group treatment. Staff are highly trained and credentialed to provide services for individuals of all ages including very young pre-school children, school age children and adolescents as well as adults and older adults.
Case management and other support services are also available to assist individuals with service linkage and monitoring related to their behavioral health, medical, housing, employment and other related needs.
Other community services such as psycho-educational groups, parenting programs and free community presentations are also offered.
Child Intensive Day Services
The Parent and Adolescent Counseling and Education Program (PACE) offers day treatment services for children and teens ages 9-17. The services include intensive day treatment options to children in need of more than traditional outpatient therapy. The length and type of treatment depends on the needs of the child but typically they attend each day of the week for up to several months.
Specialized Services for Families
Special services for children and their families throughout Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties are provided through contracts with the state of Florida’s Department of Children and Families and Heartland for Children. These services are designed to provide assistance and stability to families whose children are either at risk of removal due to abuse or neglect or who have already been removed. These special programs include Family Support Services (FSS), Family Intervention Team (FIT) and Family Assistant Support Team (FAST).
Specialized Services for Adults
The Center for Behavioral Health offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy®. TMS is the first and only non-systemic and non-invasive depression treatment to be cleared by the FDA for adults suffering from Major Depressive Disorder. This treatment is provided in an outpatient treatment setting.
Other specialized services for Adults includes a Memory Clinic for the treatment of memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, stroke and other brain injuries through a partnership with the University of South Florida Polytechnic’s Applied Neuroscience Lab and the Winter Haven Hospital Rehabilitation Services.

School Based Services
Children in various public schools in Polk County have access to on site mental health consultation and counseling services from our professional staff. These services are made available through a contract with the Polk County School Board. Included are children from pre-school age through high school. Additionally, our trained pre-school specialists provide contracted on site counseling and consultation to assist in the developmental and emotional needs for young children in pre-school head start centers and migrant head start centers throughout Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties.
The Peer Recovery Program
This free service offers education, socialization, employment skills, and support to consumers who have a mental health diagnosis. It is a peer lead, peer support program that helps to empower all participating consumers and move them towards recovery.
It is offered twice a week at two different locations in Winter Haven:
- Monday from 11:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. it is held in the community at the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church located at 1910 Havendale Boulevard
- Wednesday from 12:30-4:30pm at Winter Haven Hospital, Inc. Center for Behavioral Health
NAMI CONNECTIONS SUPPORT GROUP
The local Polk County Chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) offers a support group at the Center for Behavioral Health every Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. -3:30 p.m. and every Thursday evening from 7:0 0 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Any individual receiving services, a family member, caretaker or community member with interest is welcomed to attend and receive support and education related to mental health issues.
