36 bed Post-partum, Mother Baby – GYN and Eye Patient unit

Typical nurse to patient ratio:

Antepartum 1:3-4; Postpartum 1:3-4; Postpartum -Mother Baby Couplets 1:3-4; GYN 1:3-4.

Typical pt diagnosis:

Postpartum; Mother-Baby; Ante-partum, GYN (medical & post-op) and eye patients

Common skills utilized:

Critical thinking is very important; Mother Baby staff is proficient in care of surgical, post-partum, care of newborn, and post surgical GYN and eye patients.

Most common meds / those nurses must be familiar with:

Methergine, Hemabate, IV antibiotics, Morphine, Hydromorphone

Care extenders used:

Certified Nursing Assistants and Nurse Techs to assist the RNs

Certification for Differential:

RNC, through NCC (National Cert Corp)
