- Inpatient – Services in the acute setting, including low level activity & education for patients prior to discharge
- Outpatient – 12-week program of monitored activity along with a comprehensive risk assessment & individualized education, targeting the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. The primary RN-exercise physiologist team is supported by multiple disciplines including a registered dietitian, pharmacist, psychologist, diabetic educator, respiratory therapist and chaplain.
Typical patient diagnosis:

- Inpatients – ALL cardiac diagnosis
- Outpatients – s/p AMI (within 12 months), s/p CABG, stable angina, heart valve replacement/repair, angioplasty (with or without stenting), heart transplant
Common skills utilized:
Critical thinking, superior assessment skills, EKG & arrhythmia interpretation
Most common meds / those nurses must be familiar with:
All cardiac meds (including antihypertensives, lipid lowering agents, diabetic meds, etc.), emergency/ACLS meds
Care extenders used:
No. All professional staff.
Certification for Differential:
Cardiac Vascular Nurse (ANCC) or ACSM Registered Clinical Exercise Specialist
