Typical nurse to patient ratio:
1:1 first 12 hours post-op, then 1:1 or 1:2 (depending on the patient)
Typical pt diagnosis:
Post open heart surgeries (bypass, valve repair/replacement, redo’s), post thoracic surgery (ex: lung surg), carditid endarderectomy, major vascular surgeries (AAA repair, aortic-bifem bypasses)
Common skills utilized:
ACLS/BLS, vent, balloon pump, CRRT, drips, typical critical care skills; Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication system
Most common meds / those nurses must be familiar with:
All emergency meds (ACLS), typical ICU meds
Nursing Staff:
All RN Staff
Care extenders used:
No. Occasional Nurse Tech to assist.
