Mid-
Florida Home Health has recently developed a Wound Care Program.
Our two, Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (W.O.C.) nurses in conjunction
with Smith-Nephew, wound care products supplier, have trained
wound care specialists to provide wound, ostomy, and continence
care throughout Polk County.
Each of
our patients are evaluated using the Braden Scale. A score of
16 or less indicates that a visit from one of our Wound Care
Specialists is warranted. The approach is a multidisciplinary
team approach that includes the physician, W.O.C. nurses and
specialists, patients and caregivers and our colleagues at Winter
Haven Hospital.
Our two
W.O.C. nurses are highly trained. Mary Cowles received her BSN
at the University of Alabama and Enterostomal Training at Emory
University in Atlanta. Lou Ann Foley received her BSN at Dominican
College in Blauvelt, New York. She received her MSN/CNS at the
College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, New York and her Enterostomal
Training at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York.
Our Wound
Care Specialists are comprised of a group of field nursing staff
with years of home health experience. They have received twelve
additional hours of wound care lectures, training and competency
testing and have participated in
direct patient care under the observation of our W.O.C. nurses.
They must also receive an additional six hours continuing education
units each year.
Mid-Florida
Home Health Services and Smith-Nephew look forward to providing
the medical community with more information and educational
opportunities regarding the specialized care required by a portion
of our referral population. Quality care is our number one priority
and we are confident you will find quality care provided by
our Wound Care Team. Call Mid-Florida Home Health for more information
