Lung Disease Education

Winter Haven Hospital's Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program offers free community education lectures. These informative topics are focused on those people who have or are associated with lung diseases and are taught by professionals who invite your questions.  Sessions are about one hour in length starting at 11:00 A.M. and are held at the VFW Hall, 231 East Lake Avenue, Auburndale.
The dates for Better Breathers meetings are scheduled as follows:
January 8, February 12 and April 9.
Also available: an individual rehabilitation program for people afflicted with Chronic Lung Disease.  Therapies and instruction, accompanied with your physician order are provided by a multidisciplinary staff. Approved by Medicare and most major insurance companies.

Sage-ing

The Sage-ing program is an exciting new program for anyone interested in a new perspective about aging.  Join us and create the understanding and wisdom to have joy in the second half of your life. This program is for anyone who expects to grow older. The programs will be held in the Education Classrooms at Winter Haven Hospital from 2:00 P.M. - 4:30 P.M.  Seating is limited, so please call (863) 291-6705 or 1-(800)-416-6705 to reserve a seat.

Quit Smart

If you or someone you care about has been thinking about quitting cigarettes, consider the QUIT SMART method.  In a few brief classes QUIT SMART can show you the best way to break free from cigarettes for good!

Dates: January 14, 28, 30, March 11, 25, 27, May 13, 27, 29

Time: All classes are from 6:30 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.

Where: Winter Haven Hospital Classroom F, Winter Haven

Fee: $50.00 ($25.00 for MFMS Employees)

Babysitting Training

This class teaches safety, accident prevention, handling emergencies and how to be a responsible babysitter.  For young people ages 11-16.  Space is limited, so call early.

Dates: February 22, June 11, June 24

Time: 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.

Fee: $30.00 includes course materials, drinks, snack

Building Better Bones

For women and men of all ages, this 2-part class will give you the tools to build better bones and lessen the damaging effects of osteoporosis.  Includes the disease process, nutrition, medical management, and exercise.  Presented by Winter Haven Hospital's Regency Medical Center and Outpatient Rehabilitation Services.

Dates: March 6 & 13

Time: 5:30 - 7:30 P.M.

Fee: $20.00 includes reference notebook and bone-healthy refreshments


CardiAction

A four-week course about caring for your heart and avoiding cardiac events... whether you've already had a heart attack or not, is being offered every other month at the Winter Haven Hospital.  Classes are conducted by a variety of cardiovascular experts including nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, and behavioral health specialists.  Cost for this series is $25.00, which covers two participants (attendee & spouse, significant other, family member or caregiver).  To register for this series and for more information regarding dates and times, please call (863) 291-6705 or 1-(800)-416-6705.


Living With Diabetes

A four-week course including an overview of diabetes, meal planning, self-blood glucose monitoring, awareness of complications, and dealing with stress.  The cost for this course is $25.00 per person.
